Are you passionate about tackling climate challenges, reducing emissions, and driving sustainability solutions? As an Operations - Tap2Ride Analyst in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful data-focused initiatives with the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority.
This is a hybrid position with the expectation of onsite work 4 days per week and remote 1 day per week. This position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of the site location at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the site address will be considered.
The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) operates a key intercity rail service that helps reduce vehicle trips and emissions across Northern California. For 2024–25, the CCJPA Climate Corp Project Fellow will focus on supporting the agency’s participation in the California Integrated Travel Project (Cal-ITP), with an emphasis on the Tap2Ride pilot—an innovative, contactless fare payment program. The Fellow will assist in evaluating pilot performance, analyzing ridership and fare data, and contributing to outreach and education strategies. They will collaborate with staff across planning, operations, and marketing while participating in internal and external project meetings. Additional tasks may include data visualization, maintaining key performance metrics, and supporting service improvement initiatives. The role may involve fieldwork along the Capitol Corridor route, including station visits and train rides. This fellowship provides valuable experience in fare innovation, transportation equity, data analysis, and the management of a major public rail service.

What You’ll Do
- Support the implementation and evaluation of the Tap2Ride contactless fare payment pilot as part of CCJPA’s participation in the California Integrated Travel Project (Cal-ITP).
- Assist in analyzing fare payment and ridership data to identify patterns, improve access, and support future digital fare strategies.
- Contribute to user experience and outreach efforts by gathering customer feedback, developing educational materials, and helping plan engagement activities.
- Conduct fieldwork aboard trains and at stations to collect data and observe the functionality and adoption of the Tap2Ride system.
- Collaborate with CCJPA’s Planning and Operations teams to identify ways digital fare tools can improve service equity, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Assist in maintaining data dashboards and visualizations that inform internal planning and support CCJPA’s climate and service goals.
