Summary To provide transportation for wheelchairs, medical taxis, and stretchers to transport patients to hospitals, nursing homes, doctor offices, or any other facility previously approved. The wheelchair transporter works closely with the EMT to provide effective and efficient patient care per established protocols relevant to EMR certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned.
The Wheelchair Transporter is fully responsible and is accountable for the quality of emergency and non-emergency medical care delivered. In delivering pre-hospital emergency care, the wheelchair transporter performs all basic life support techniques, provides specified field treatment for medical emergencies, and transports patients to the appropriate medical facility. This includes an ambulance, wheelchair, and medical van.
Must maintain Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) credentials.
In delivering non-emergency transportation for wheelchair and medical taxi patients to appropriate facilities:
- Safely moves, secures, and transports wheelchairs, medical taxis, and stretchers to transport patients to appropriate facilities.
- Diplomatically and professionally interact with hospitals, nursing home social workers, friends, and relatives of the patient.
- Completes all essential records for patient transportation and billing purposes.
- Assists in training new personnel on the day-to-day operations of the wheelchair vehicle, including billing procedures.
- Identifies and reports operational problems.
- Report difficulties encountered with patients, relatives, professional personnel, and others to the on-duty supervisor.
- Safely operate EmergyCare vehicles in all traffic and weather conditions.
- Performs daily inspection of assigned vehicle and all equipment on the vehicle.
- Follows established format and submits accurate and timely reports as required.
- Advises on-duty supervisor of any unusual conditions or incidents requiring intervention or remedial action.
- Maintains skills and job requirements through regular participation in continuing education programs.
- Responsible for the operation of the wheelchair vans.
- Encouraged to participate in continuing education and company committees.
- Can anticipate any shortcomings during daily operations and quickly resolve any problems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
