Details of Appointment

Benefits

Salary of $140,703 to $150,200 pa. starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement.

Working Environment

Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale.

The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). 

Duties

  • Lead and supervise multiple teams responsible for prisoner interventions including assessment, sentence planning, case management and reintegration. This includes the oversight of staff skill development and human resource management.
  • Provide clinical oversight and responsibility for all accommodation areas that provide intervention and reintegration opportunities for prisoners. These are MHWP, Health services, Special Needs units, Units delivering intervention programs and operating as therapeutic communities.
  • Manage prisoner sentence planning, assessments, planning and reintegration processes. This includes the provision of advice about the ongoing case management and reintegration of prisoners with a Risk Needs Responsivity and strengths based framework and/or other models/frameworks as adopted by the department.
  • Develop and implement appropriate audit, quality assurance and staff development models that assure a high level of accuracy in the assessment, sentence planning and case management of inmates.
  • Continue the development and implementation of appropriate auditing and quality assurance systems that ensure inmate leave from detention is in line with structured work, education or reintegration planning.
  • Develop and implement appropriate models to evaluate sentence management loads and intervention outcomes.
  • Have oversight of case conferences, liaise with other prison service staff and relevant agencies about inmate assessment, case management and reintegration.
  • Foster a multidisciplinary approach to achieving through care to meet prisoner’s needs through collaboration with other government and non-government agencies.
  • Provide reports and audits as required by Prison Service policies and procedures, and contribute to the development of these policies and procedures.
