General Summary:
We are entering an exciting phase of commercial diversification at Vertex. As we expand into new pipeline disease areas and new geographies, we are investing in data, technology and AI to scale our commercial operations globally. We are looking for a Solution Architect who can shape our data strategy, future proof investments and set the foundation for advanced capabilities such as AI.
The Senior Director, Solution Architecture is a strategic leadership role responsible for defining and executing the Commercial and Medical Affairs technology architecture vision and implementation. The role will lead our modernization strategy across Commercial and Medical Affairs functions. The Senior Director, Solution Architecture will collaborate with senior leaders, DTE peers, and other key stakeholders across several areas of the business to identify, prioritize and deliver technology solutions in support of their goals and objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partner with business stakeholders across Commercial and Medical Affairs functions to recommend innovative technologies, solution ideas, and business process improvements.
- Define the overall solution architecture strategy aligned with business objectives and technology roadmaps.
- Document and maintain Commercial and Medical Affairs technology architecture, including reference architectures, data flows, and process flows.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation, such as AI/Agentic AI to enhance business processes.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for technology decisions, vendor selection, and platform investments.
- Guide the selection of tools, platforms, and frameworks to optimize system efficiency.
- Provide technical vision and leadership to support digital transformation initiatives.
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across domains.
- Lead cloud migration and modernization strategies and transformations.
- Ensure seamless integration between Commercial and Medical Affairs systems and enterprise platforms (e.g., Vertex Data Platform).
- Collaborate with Information Security, Internal Audit, and Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with SOX, GxP, and DTE lifecycle requirements.
- Participate in the Commercial and Medical Affairs Technology Leadership Team to shape team and Technology Roadmap.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Lead the design and implementation of commercial and medical affairs technology solutions across CRM, omnichannel engagement, patient services, data platforms, and compliance systems.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and integration patterns.
- Maintain documentation of architectural decisions, system designs, and integration models for audit and scalability.

- Knowledge of emerging architectural technologies and trends.
- Proficiency in stakeholder management and engagement.
- Ability to drive innovation and excellence in architectural practices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Architecture, or related field
- 10-12 years of experience in architecture
- 8+ years of experience in the commercial technology domain, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade solutions.
- Deep technical knowledge of major commercial software and data platforms, including but not limited to Salesforce, Veeva, Informatica, Azure, and enterprise data integration tools.
- Strong understanding of commercial business processes including sales, marketing, market access, and patient services.
- Experience with agile methodologies and frameworks such as SAFe is preferred.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Pay Range:
$216,800 - $325,200Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
