Your Mission:Your mission is to ensure that Boxcar remains in its status as the premier fitness center in Chicago located in a commercial office building.  You’ll manage day-to-day operations with a hospitality mindset, lead a team of two fitness professionals, oversee programming including sports leagues and creative engagement programs, and provide fitness services like personal training and group classes to the building’s tenants (your clients).  You will create a supportive and inspiring wellness space that runs like a well-oiled machine and provides your tenants at the Old Post Office with an exceptional experience that is a break from their day-to-day job.

You built lasting relationships with thousands of members, improved fitness center engagement and membership satisfaction, and led Boxcar Fitness Center to be the reason tenants were excited to come to work every day. You created a thriving community and an unmatched tenant experience that improved the vitality of every member that entered the space.

What You’re Responsible For:

  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the fitness center is always clean, stocked, and working well. Achieve  a 100% readiness score during audits and positive feedback from your Property Management Team. Maintain a quarterly membership satisfaction rating of 95% or higher.
  • Team Leadership: Manage one Fitness Manager who works 6am-2pm and one  Assistant Fitness Manager who works 11am-7pm. Ensure they are meeting or exceeding personal training revenue targets, member satisfaction goals, creating and executing engaging programming, and making the magic happen every day.
  • Revenue Growth: Contribute to and lead team members to meet or exceed revenue goals for the site, including individual memberships (achieving at least 1,850 memberships by end of 2025), corporate memberships, personal and small group training revenue (achieving $100k in annual personal training revenue), private class revenue and fitness league revenue.
  • Personal and/or Small Group Training: Coach 4-7 personal training sessions per month. Be available to substitute teach classes or coach clients for Fitness Manager and Assistant Fitness Manager when they are out.
  • Marketing and Member Engagement: Collaborate on marketing strategies and events to increase fitness center usage and engagement. Develop a monthly newsletter for members and create additional marketing materials as needed to promote programs, discounts, events, and more.
  • Special Programming and Sports Leagues: Oversee basketball and pickleball leagues and manage the private events process for tenant companies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster seamless collaboration with building management by incorporating their feedback into actionable solutions and providing data-driven reports monthly to demonstrate progress toward goals.

Who You Are - Baseline Requirements:

  • You have 4+ years of experience in the fitness and/or wellness industry
  • You have 3+ years of previous management experience within a gym or fitness center.  Even better if it happens to have been in an office building, given the environment is different than a public gym.
  • You have a valid Personal Training certification from national organization (NSCA, NASM, ACE), and a valid CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • You have previous experience creating budgets and reading P&L reports, and experience creating and presenting financial reports
  • You are proficient in Google suite (Google Sheets, Calendar, Email tools)
  • You are comfortable using new and evolving technology systems for membership management
  • If you have group fitness certification(s) of any format, that is a nice to have
