The Associate Director of Commercial Finance is expected to lead a team focused on activities that are of the highest value for improving Parexel’s market position.  In doing so, the Associate Director of Commercial Finance will serve as a partner and direct point of contact to a specific customer or set of customers as well as establish standards and policies for Commercial analytics and decision support across Parexel.

The Associate Director of Commercial Finance is expected to lead a team of strong “Commercial Finance Experts”, and heavily influence the decision-making process in partnership with the Commercial leaders. 

He/She will take the appropriate decisions that are the best for Parexel and must balance the financial needs of the customer with the financial and fiduciary needs of Parexel.  As a result, the Associate Director of Commercial Finance should have a deep understanding of the economics and sold profitability drivers across Parexel for critical clients and clearly articulate them to Commercial Leaders.   By utilizing the Project Financial Excellence analytics and/or Commercial Analytics, he/she will work both internally and externally with Client and Commercial Leaders to positively impact financial performance (e.g. sold and gross margin and cash flow). 

He/She interprets and articulates client analytics to Commercial leaders and helps influence commercial strategy and guides future commercial financial decisions on the basis of their impact on financial performance.

The Associate Director of Commercial Finance must demonstrate competency in the overall financial management of contract types and will be critical to understand each of the assigned client's portfolio nuances in order to drive additional profit. He/She must be able to examine a client or multiple clients and take the best decisions for Parexel. 

Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with Proposals & Contracts and Account Leads on the development of financial analysis for proposals.
  • Considers the big picture, including all stakeholders, and looks beyond the obvious to anticipate problems and data needs and proactively find solutions. Works with Commercial leaders and Finance Managers to interpret the most critical financial information. 
  • Leverage relevant and impactful metrics to drive account level process, system and financial improvements 
  • Leverage understanding of the business context to synthesize financial and operational data into meaningful business insights that highlight performance, risk, and opportunities.  Outline ways to improvement results to Commercial leadership.
  • Manage alternative finance scenarios with a high degree of technical knowledge, business acumen, best practice approach to drive financial and commercial value into account/client portfolio
  • Review key portfolio/client financial management performance indicators, identify and implement areas for improvement, develop solutions and adjust org unit tactics, policies and procedures to improve client portfolio financial outcomes.  Make data-driven decisions for Commercial team to drive improvements in profitability.
  • Where appropriate, guide the process of trouble-shooting complex finance dynamics with managers and finance business partners (e.g., serve as client point of contact for key financial issues escalation).  The Associate Director of Commercial Finance will have some of the largest and most challenging clients.
  • Provides financial decisions and leadership to Parexel Commercial/Business leaders in the negotiation of standard terms at account level. Works with Finance groups on addressing nonstandard terms & conditions. Actively participate in client negotiations on new & existing pursuits (MSA, Amendments, WOs).  Focuses on the most critical, challenging customers. 
  • support account leaders (ALs) and Client Delivery Directors (CDDs) in client and portfolio decision making process; clearly articulate financial implications of business decisions / choices, and provide retrospective analysis as well as drive forward looking actions at account level (large key accounts)
