The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist utilizes a comprehensive evaluation based on accepted professional standards to assess patient needs and functional status. Devise and implement appropriate treatment plans to promote the highest level of patient self-sufficiency. Regularly re-assess plan efficacy, provide appropriate education to patients and families and progress patients toward goals and outcomes that reflect improved independence.

 Qualifications: 

 

  • Required Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Parks & Recreation Administration, or related field.  An equivalent combination of education in a related field and related experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is acceptable
  • Prefer experience in working with individuals with physical disabilities that require modification to participate.  Prefer experience in planning, coordination, and implementation of recreation, sport or related programs
  • Applicants with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation must be certified or eligible for certification prior to employment and is required to maintain certification through NCTRC.  Certification eligible staff must obtain CTRS certification within one year of hire. TR certification must be re-applied for every five years
