Part-Time TRIO Program Specialist

About the role

Provides direct services to TRIO participants. Secondary: responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and management of the TRIO Student Support Services program.

This part-time position is grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO initiative for 12-months, continuation status contingent upon the availability of future grant funding. The current grant is through 8/31/2025.

Major Responsibilities:

• Assists Director and TRIO Coordinator in ensuring that the TRIO project is implemented in accordance with all grant rules, regulations, and applicable federal laws
• Assists recruitment efforts of TRIO applicants
• Responsible for providing direct services and programming for TRIO participants
• Records general data for each TRIO participant (activity attendance, financial aid, scholarships, employment opportunities, social services, etc.)
• Provides guidance, coaching, support, standards, and accountability to TRIO participants relationship to the program
• Participates in a comprehensive, 360-degree early warning system for TRIO students facing difficulties
• Participates in case management and follow-up
• Contributes to the management of the TRIO Resource Center (virtual and/or in person) and online program systems (i.e., OrgSync, Canvas, Facebook, Zoom, program website, etc.)
• Assists in the coordination and presentation of TRIO seminars and other events
• Assists the TRIO Director, TRIO Coordinator, and TRIO Program Assistant in the creation of literature, materials, policy / procedure, and reports
• Partners with other services / programs (both inside and outside the college) as well as college employees, coordinating efforts and sharing resources
• Along with Director and TRIO Coordinator, assists with the management of the TRIO Leadership Council, a registered student organization with the Ivy Tech Office of Student Life
• Attends national, regional, and local conferences as funding allows
• As a college employee, assists in efforts that support the Ivy Tech Community College mission

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree preferred with a concentration in a relevant field required
• Experience in educational programs serving disadvantaged student populations (preferred)
• Experience in the implementation and quantitative/qualitative evaluation of programming (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of applicable federal regulations
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Personal background as a low-income, first-generation, and/or disabled postsecondary student (preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Previous mentoring or advising experience preferred

• Previous experience with tele-conferencing platforms such as Zoom preferred
• Independent work effort
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion in accordance with FERPA
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and maintain working relationships and contacts with administrators both inside and outside the organization

• Ability to be a self-starter and provide timely and consistent follow-up when given program/project related tasks
• Ability to meet deadlines consistently
• Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions
