JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Protected Areas Research Collaborative (PARC) Listening Lab is looking for part-time undergraduate research assistants. Flexible hours (8- 20 hours/week), two to four days a week. The PARC Listening Lab is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and all work hours will take place during this time in the Ford Building on the University Park campus. Employment will be carried into the spring 2025 semester with the opportunity to continue work into the following year. Employees who are early career are encouraged to apply and work for the lab for multiple years. This lab is a great opportunity to gain research experience.

Undergraduate researchers will be responsible for processing acoustic data both visually and auditorily. They will be a part of a collaborative lab environment with daily interaction with supervisors and peers in a lab setting. 

The PARC Listening Lab is a collaboration between the National Park Service - Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division; the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management in the College of Health and Human Development; and the Acoustics Graduate Program in the College of Engineering. The lab is responsible for processing acoustic data from national parks across the United States. There will be opportunities for projects in machine learning, AI, ecology, social science, and more if interested. The lab is willing to supply data for projects or honors thesis if needed.

Work for the lab will start the first week of the Fall 2024 semester (August 26, 2024). The PARC Listening Lab operates on the university academic calendar and is closed for all university holidays and breaks.
