  • Competitive starting salary of $92,000, with a promotion to $99,000 upon completion of the training program.

  • On-call, weekend, and holiday work is required.

 

Overview: At Norfolk Southern, our Communications and Signals (C&S) department is essential to our railroad operations. Much like traffic lights manage road traffic, our signals ensure safe and efficient train movements. Our C&S department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of these signals and related equipment, including railroad crossing gates, train defect detectors, and equipment identification systems. Job Description: Embark on a transformative 40-52+ week trainee program designed to develop your leadership skills and technical expertise, preparing you for the role of a C&S Supervisor. You will:

  • Build strong relationships with current C&S supervisors.
  • Learn effective leadership techniques to manage teams of 8-15 technicians.
  • Gain hands-on experience in railroad signaling, installation, operation, and inspection.
  • Travel, work outside of normal business hours, and adapt to a flexible schedule to support our 24/7 operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 8-15 union technicians with humility and trust.
  • Demonstrate strong electrical operating capabilities.
  • Make informed decisions to achieve exceptional results.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Communicate and collaborate efficiently.
  • Possess knowledge of radio technology.
  • Be willing to relocate and/or travel as needed.

 

Education and Skills:

  • Associate’s Degree (AS) or Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Wireless Engineering, or RF Engineering.
