This position is exempt from Career Service under the CCH Personnel Rules.

Job Summary

The Registered Vascular Technologist performs services related to patients undergoing venous and arterial ultrasound examination. This position will require operating ultrasound equipment as well as performing all types of ultrasound examinations on patients. This position will work in collaboration with the RVT Supervisor to ensure that all tests are complete, and information documented in accordance with practice standards.

Typical Duties

• Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, outpatient registration and others, as required relating to patient matters.
• Obtains and records an accurate patient history
• Performs ultrasound procedures utilizing mobile and stationary ultrasound equipment to produce quality images which can be interpreted by Vascular Surgeon or designated physician.
• Analyzes technical ultrasound information including harmonics, depth, PR intervals, color, etc.
• Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to the diagnostic findings.
• Provides an oral or written summary of the technical findings to the Vascular Surgeon or designated physician for medical diagnosis.
• Provides quality patient care.
• Collaborates with the Vascular Surgeon and other members of the healthcare team
• Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients.
• Prepares patient for ultrasound; transfers patient to table, positions and assists patient at end of procedures.
• Collaborates with Director of Vascular Laboratory concerning procedural issues.
• Adjusts equipment, determines proper gain, brightness and desired images, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patients and selects proper firm.
• Communicates with Director of Vascular Laboratory relating to quality control, equipment calibration, procedural changes and work schedule.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment per Infection Control policies.
• Completes all procedures in RadNet and inputs all procedures in RadNet within 24 hours when the system is down.
• Transmits images via PACS system in a timely fashion.
• Protects all patient health information (oral or recorded in any form) that is obtained, handled, learned, heard or viewed in the course of work or association with the hospital
• Assesses the labs needs of disposables and equipment on a weekly basis and orders supplies, as needed
• Participates with the department's Quality Assurance (QA) program for Vascular Laboratory
• Remains current in evolving trends and advances in the areas of RVT.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Pushing/Pulling:
  • Patients on carts and wheelchairs weighing up to 300 lbs. are moved approximately 200 feet. Carts are equipped with wheels.
  • No equipment is available to assist with pushing/pulling. Co-workers are frequently available to assist.
• Hand Coordination Activities: Gross manipulation, fine manipulation, simple grasping, and hand twisting of both hands are needed to operate the ultrasound machines. Powerful grip with both hands is needed for patient transfers.
