About the role
Provide key support duties and assist in coordination of the health & safety, injury prevention, emergency management and environment of care programs, ensuring compliance, confidentiality and displaying discretion in all matters. Assist the emergency management and safety leadership with related project development and administration in the areas of safety, preparedness and disaster response. Serve as a resource to internal/external customers. Work with administrative, supervisory and other personnel to identify and correct unsafe practices or conditions. Serve as a training resource for the disaster preparedness and safety programs. Recommend modification in hospital department facilities and practices to develop safer working conditions and improve work environment. Work with assigned hospital staff to eliminate or control health & safety hazards. Assist in the management of disaster preparedness & safety related equipment inventory and organization. Knowledgeable about principles and techniques of industrial health and safety; training methods and techniques; California laws and regulations related to emergency management, health & safety, The Joint Commission and Title 22 requirements, as related to safety, emergency management and the environment of care. Take direction and assist in the implementation of health and safety programs; assist with studies and surveys to determine hazards and to make recommendations for controls.
Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job.
Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships; speak and write effectively; effectively contribute to activities necessary to achieve the department's goals. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.
