WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the Managing Director, Events, you will be responsible for leading strategic event management in support of a cohort-wide fundraising team. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of a diverse portfolio of fundraising events and communication strategies that drive revenue, engage supporters, and advance our mission. As a member of the Field Fundraising team, you will be a part of a team-based effort charged with developing and executing on a long-term vision and strategy to achieve our development goals for both public and private funding. In your role, you will partner with Executive Directors, regional advisory board members, and other front-line fundraisers to maximize giving, and engage donors in local communities who share our commitment to ensuring all children have access to an excellent and equitable education, from local communities in service of Teach For America’s mission and impact. 

Reporting to the Vice President, Field Fundraising you will be charged with setting the vision and strategies for a high volume of fundraising and stewardship events as well as support key communication strategies. You will work directly with Executive Directors and Prospect and Donor Managers (PDMs) to ensure they have the high-quality deliverables needed to effectively cultivate and steward and grow their local portfolios of donors, and with regional and national program teams to build your understanding of local and enterprise-wide programmatic priorities and impact to share with TFA’s supporters. We are looking for a specialist in fundraising and development who - in partnership with local Executive Directors and the VP, Field Fundraising - can independently develop and execute the content and experiences that are essential to our strategy to acquire, cultivate, retain, and diversify TFA’s portfolio of donors. We are looking for a true team player who can make a significant contribution across a full cohort-wide portfolio.  

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • 60% - Partner with Executive Directors, the VP, Field Fundraising, and field fundraising teams to design and execute the vision, strategy, and planning of strategic fundraising and cultivation events annually, with the goal of maximizing revenue to the organization. In addition to being a critical way of generating philanthropic support, these events provide platforms to showcase and amplify the impact of our work, highlight the successes of our partner schools, teachers, and students, acquire and steward donors, and build brand awareness and equity in the community and among all stakeholders.

  • 30% - Collaborate with the Frontline Fundraising team to develop strategic donor-facing communications (newsletters, annual reports, annual appeals), with guidance and support from a team lead.

  • 5% - Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system (currently SalesForce) and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach 

  • 5% - Steward team and organizational initiatives


 

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications): 

  • Relationship Building and Management

    • Highly skilled relationship builder, both internally and externally

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience tailoring content and approach for different constituency groups

    • Effectively collaborate with others on various work and tasks, and ability to proactively problem solve and navigate complexity

    • Strong team orientation and ability to build relationships within and across teams, with an ability to manage up and laterally to influence teammates 

    • Serve as an effective organizational steward in all direct event-related communications and touchpoints with donors

  • Fundraising and Development 

    • Specialize in best practices of development and event fundraising 

    • Track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals

    • Strong organizational skills and attentio
