Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Database Analyst to be based in Indianapolis, IN.
Purpose of Position/Summary:
This position manages and maintains multiple servers for the Traffic Management Division. Position includes developing and maintaining automated retrieval and insertions processes to collect and store data from field devices. This position must continuously investigate and implement the latest practices and technologies to optimize the data storage and collection process. The position requires a thorough knowledge of various software packages to manage the large volumes of data. The software includes but not limited to Linux, Postgresql, SQL, pgAdmin3, Navicat, PostGIS. This position works with all sections of traffic management as well as Purdue University and other partners to both utilize the data as well as improve data storage and retrieval. This position also maintains a website housing metrics for all sections of Traffic management as well as monthly reports for the executive staff. This position would write web based and/or desktop software displaying traffic management data.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Under direct or general supervision, may complete scientific assignments of limited complexity
- May assist in the training and evaluation of assigned scientific personnel
- Manage data storage/warehousing for Traffic Management
- Manage and maintain server hardware including database server, file/ftp server, data/process server, standby servers
- Install, manage and optimize linux operating system on server/desktop
- Analyze, develop, optimize and maintain large scale relational databases
- Analyze, develop and schedule all database backup and maintenance routines
- Work with Purdue University staff with ongoing research in various areas of Traffic Management
- Analyze, develop and maintain automated data retrieval processes and schedules to collect data from field devices
- Analyze, develop and maintain automated data insertion processes and schedules for data collected from field devices
- Develop and maintain Traffic Management web page displaying metrics for each section of Traffic
- Management utilizing web programming languages such as Java, VB.ASP, or C.ASP
- Develop and maintain GIS mapping application for visual display and analysis of data
- Prepare Traffic Management monthly reports for executive staff
- Provide training for staff as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of computer hardware including Linux Servers and networking
- Thorough knowledge of Linux desktop/server, Postgresql, PostGIS, PGAdmin3, Navicat, SQL
- Thorough knowledge of Linux bash scripting, linux cron jobs, PHP, python, javascripting, jpgraph
- Knowledge of web programming languages such as Java, VB.ASP, C.ASP for data reporting and dissemination
- 5 years experience in database management and networking
- Knowledge of traffic signal controllers and operation is desirable
