Job Description
Our software development team is at the forefront of creating cutting-edge solutions that drive our mission to help our clients manage their data to assist with the complexities of Ubiquitous Technical Surveillance. We are currently looking for a Deputy Director of Software Development to join our dynamic team. This is a pivotal role that offers the opportunity to contribute to our growth and success significantly.
The Deputy Director of Software Development will report directly to the VP of Software and play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day management and strategic direction of our software development team. This individual will be responsible for leading the development of high-quality software solutions, fostering innovation, and driving efficiency and productivity throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for technology, and a proven track record of delivering successful software projects in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
In the First Six Months, You Will:
- Help make decisions about our team structure as we scale
- Help hire new software developers and leaders to support our growing product line
- Continue to foster an environment where innovation and collaboration can thrive
What you will do:
- Collaborate with the VP of Software in defining and implementing the strategic vision and goals for the software development department.
- Help create new teams and reorganized teams as our business needs evolve over time
- Oversee the development team, including hiring, mentoring, and professional development, to build a high-performing team.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging the team to explore new technologies and methodologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, quality assurance, and product & delivery, to ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Monitor industry trends and advancements in technology to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Manage the development lifecycle, including planning, prioritization, and execution, to ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, security, and compliance standards.
Qualifications
What Makes You the Perfect Fit:
- Software Technical Savvy: While coding may not be your day job, you're fluent in high-level tech concepts. Your expertise spans understanding when to advocate for custom software and when to seek other solutions.
- Android Insight: You don't create apps, but you're knowledgeable about the technical intricacies of Android and the AOSP platform.
- Strategic Triage Expertise: Assessing the need for software solutions is second nature to you. You understand that custom software isn't always the answer.
- GitHub and npm Repos Knowledge: You're familiar with why these repositories exist and how to navigate them effectively.
- Open Source Community Understanding: You understand the dynamics of the open-source world and its contributions to technology.
- Leadership Experience: You bring at least 1+ years of leadership experience, steering teams towards success.
- Proven Leadership: 2+ years in software development arena
- Tech-Savvy Communicator: You don't need to be a coder, but talking tech should be your second language.
- Strategic Thinker: A knack for problem-solving and strategic planning.
- Team Builder: Exceptional at rallying, mentoring, and inspiring your troops.
- Agile Aficionado: Well-versed in agile methodologies and project management wizardry.
