Job Description

What’s the role?

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer II to join our Seller Commerce team.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Payments Commerce team you will be responsible for designing and building software solutions to expand Etsy's seller-side of Etsy’s commerce platform, working closely with other members of the team to identify and prioritize technical requirements, and take a lead role in the design and implementation of sophisticated software systems. This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager and the base salary range will be 171,000.00 - 201,000.00 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s this team like at Etsy? 

  • This role sits within Etsy’s Seller Commerce team which is responsible for helping our sellers grow their business by reaching buyers wherever they are - whether it’s on Etsy, in-person, or on other platforms.
  • You will work in a multi-functional team and can expect to partner with other engineers, a product manager, and other partners including Etsy’s analytics and product design teams.
  • This team is currently working on foundational product initiatives to improve how Etsy’s sellers are paid for their sales on Etsy before moving onto future growth initiatives which may include product initiatives for sellers such as building invoicing products, facilitating in-person payments, and enabling checkout capabilities for Etsy’s listings on other platforms.

 What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Build solutions to help our sellers through commerce channel expansion and improvement.
  • Take the lead on directing and implementing solutions to significantly sophisticated, un scoped problems.
  • Prototype, optimize, and deploy large-scale product improvements that deliver key results.
  • Collaborate with product managers, product designers, analysts, researchers, and other full-stack engineers to align work with Etsy business and engineering priorities to realize meaningful impact.
  • Improve the overall quality of engineering and consistently take steps to support the growth and success of your teammates.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • The ability to operate within a large codebase and learn how to create simplicity from sophisticated systems.
  • Experience building web applications, using both back-end technologies (we use PHP, MySQL) and front-end (JavaScript, React, CSS)
  • Product development experience with the ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye toward maintainability.
  • Strong debugging skills, allowing you to determine the source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems.
  • Comfort collaborating closely with a distributed team.
  • Experience providing estimates or product ideas that will influence the team’s roadmap.
  • Interest in the health and performance of the applications your team owns.
  • (Bonus) Knowledge of the larger payments ecosystem and industry trends.
