Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Scientist position who will report to the EHS Department in AECOM’s Germantown, Maryland. This is an entry-level position in AECOM’s Environment Business Line within the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technical Practice Area. The Environmental Scientist will work under supervision of a project manager or senior level team member on a variety of EHS projects, including but not limited to environmental compliance plans, environmental permitting, environmental site assessments, and subsurface investigations. Field and office work will include Phase I/Phase II environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, stormwater and wastewater permitting and monitoring and technical writing.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Entry-level position in AECOM’s Environment Business Line within the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technical Practice Area; position will report to EHS Department in AECOM’s Germantown, Maryland.
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior level team member on a variety of EHS projects, including but not limited to: environmental compliance plans and permitting, environmental site assessments, and subsurface investigations.
  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
  • Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct field work and prepare the associated reports for a wide variety of compliance projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Geology or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required for this role. 
  • Valid US Driver's License is required for this position. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience, internship or professional work, is a plus
  • Excellent in organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent in written and communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, and Excel.
  • Flexible to work on a multitude of diverse projects
  • Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team
