About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Research Analyst with a value-based investment approach to cover the Global Healthcare sector outside of Pharmaceuticals. Our team is small and collegial and based in Short Hills, NJ, with a disciplined approach emphasizing careful security selection and long holding periods. The ideal Analyst will have 3-5 years of experience focusing on the Healthcare sector and will provide fundamental research support for the Franklin Mutual portfolio teams.
This role will cover Global Healthcare (ex-Pharmaceuticals) and will include the following sub-sectors: Healthcare Equipment & Supplies, Healthcare Providers & Services, Life Sciences Tools & Services.
We are looking for a self-starter, team player, and someone who has a passion for equity research and investing. The research analyst will interact with our diverse investment team, including investment analysts and portfolio managers. Analysts at FMA are encouraged to follow their intellectual curiosity, engage in independent thinking, work with the team to develop compelling investment ideas, and make contributions to portfolio decisions.
What are the core responsibilities for this Research Analyst?
The healthcare focused research analyst’s core responsibility includes identifying and researching public equities investment opportunities within the Global Healthcare sector outside of Pharmaceuticals (Healthcare Equipment & Supplies, Healthcare Providers & Services, Life Sciences Tools & Services) for inclusion in multiple funds managed by the team.
Perform thorough fundamental analysis of a company’s business and financial position, including cash flow analysis, balance sheet and income statement evaluations.
Conduct independent research by speaking with company management and industry contacts.
Compile data from multiple sources and develop detailed financial models on covered companies.
Initiate and maintain written and verbal communication with portfolio managers.
Generate new investment candidates for inclusion in the FMA funds.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
Position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of equity research experience, with a focus on Global Healthcare companies outside of Pharmaceuticals.
Bachelor's degree.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Fundamentally sound and easily articulated investment process.
Robust problem-solving skills.
Flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and the ability to process new information.
Ability to build and maintain detailed financial models.
Strong understanding of securities and investment process.
