About the role

Position Summary: The Senior Operations Manager has leadership of and accountability for the operational, people, quality, safety and fiscal requirements of: Order fulfillment, replenishment, receiving, shipping, customer returns, and support functions for all brands and future expansion projects within the distribution center. The position is responsible for leading a team of managers which includes setting priorities and metrics, creating and facilitating training, reviewing performance, and routinely coaching associates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead the Operational development of the DC exempt team supporting process improvement through training workshops, on floor process analysis and partnership with the Distribution Optimization center of excellence.
  • Support the DC Director’s plan for Leadership development across the site, exhibiting leadership qualities to move the business forward through the collective talents and efforts of self and others.
  • Assist in setting the vision, strategy, and priority for the site and lead the rollout and execution, adjusting course based on the needs of the business.
  • Develop and execute a communication plan that is consistent and impactful in partnership with internal business partners. Communicate clear goals/expectations and standards on an on-going basis including varying levels of communication for direct reports, support teams, associates, cross-functional teams and executive level updates.
  • Provide leadership presence and support for evening and weekend shifts, empowering team members to deliver results against established goals and priorities, while creating an environment where everyone can do their best work.
  • Ensure the DC is a cultural representative of the AEO employment brand, participate and support AEO-community initiatives that maintain our “Employer of Choice” status.
  • Build the knowledge of exempt leaders of how material handling and DC software interact with one another to effectively move product through the facility.
  • Ensure the DC operates with industry best practices in the areas of Innovation, Efficiency, Customer
  • Service/Service Level, Quality, People, & Safety.
  • Assist the DC Director in the creation of annual plans; operational budget, capital budget, BC/DR plans, site goal plans, headcount and DC labor plan, etc.
  • Own the development and implementation of Peak staffing and production plans in support of business strategies that ensure efficient processing as measured by SLA and CPU.
  • Continuously improve the operation, driving innovation via industry benchmarking, including the utilization of new technology and automation with effective utilization of capital and return on investment.
  • Ensure operational alignment with the deliverables of site supports functions (Procurement, HR, Inventory
  • Integrity, IT, LP, & Facilities/Maintenance).
  • Responsible for the security and safety of all teams, product and Company property/equipment by supporting the initiatives of the AEO LP, Safety & Maintenance teams.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative, productive relationship with third party integrators and vendors; trouble shoot, brainstorm and arrive at the solutions of the future.

Requirements:

  • Strategic Planning – Strong strategic thinking skills and experience building strategic plans
  • Workforce Planning – Experience exploring / implementing creative labor solutions including technology and automation
  • Production Planning – Experience managing labor / flow of product within a large, complex environment
  • Budget Planning – Experience creating and managing large budgets in excess of $50 Million
  • Delivering Results – Solid, proven track record of delivering results

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, engineering, or related areas is preferred.
  • At least 5+ years of management in a high-volume Fulfillment or Manufacturing environment (experience within distribution, supply chain and logistics functions).
  •  At least 7+ years of experience working in Operations, preferably in an E-commerce or retail setting.

Skills and Abilities: Technical experience in warehouse management systems and various inhouse systems.
