About the role

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Database Support Team Lead (“Team Lead”) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program. CAEIO supports the DOS Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA), providing IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting CA services globally.

The Team Lead is a people and project/task manager who has Oracle database experience – either as a database administrator or technical team lead. A successful Team Lead “speaks fluent Oracle” with team members, colleagues, and customers.

Responsibilities

The Team Lead works closely with the Database Support Manager to:

  • Oversee the team responsible for the overall success of CA’s globally dispersed databases, including the performance of Tier II and Tier III support (as appropriate);
  • Support Oracle (Version 11g and higher) and Microsoft SQL Server (Version 2008 R2 and higher) platforms and proactively monitor databases to respond to incidents and alerts;
  • Monitor and manage the database environment support for CA and for optimizing database performance, availability, and capacity;
  • Automate manual maintenance, diagnostic health checks, validation, and reporting.

As a people manager, the Team Lead coordinates team members’ tasking to accomplish team program goals; monitors team members’ performance and mentors team members to help them achieve professional goals and team and program objectives; facilitates team meetings to share knowledge and, consequently, ensures that team members understand practices and processes.

As a project manager, the Team Lead manages a large portfolio of projects, working with team members, customers, and other team to analyze and refine requirements; coordinates activities across teams (Security, Infrastructure, Engineering, and Applications); leads resource and risk management; identifies process improvement opportunities and develops and executes process improvement plans.

As a customer relationship manager, the Team Lead organizes, monitors, nurtures, and continuously improves relationships and communication with stakeholders (i.e., stakeholder management).

General management responsibilities include ServiceNow Queue Management, EWM for Agile, and status reporting.

Team Leads who thrive on the CAEIO program:

  • Demonstrate flexibility by managing multiple tasks and reprioritizing tasks – often to meet tight and periodically changing deadlines.
  • Drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leverage strong written and verbal communications skills to prepare and present technical documentation to audiences with different levels of technical knowledge.
  • Transition seamlessly between being self-directed with limited supervision to being a team player who takes direction from others.

Core work schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Work location: Hybrid: remote AND up to two days per week in the office in Sterling, VA or Washington, DC
