About the role
Job Summary:
The Special Education Physical Therapist will provide specialized therapeutic services to students with disabilities, ensuring they achieve optimal physical functioning and mobility. This role involves assessing students' needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating with educators and families to support the educational goals of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' physical abilities and limitations.
2. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each student's needs.
3. Provide direct physical therapy services in accordance with established goals and objectives.
4. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to integrate therapy into the educational environment.
5. Monitor student progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
6. Educate staff and families on strategies to support students' physical development.
7. Maintain accurate documentation of student evaluations, progress notes, and treatment plans.
8. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and program effectiveness.
9. Stay current with best practices in physical therapy for special education populations.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree or Master's or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
2. A valid Indiana state license to practice as a Physical Therapist.
3. Experience working with children with disabilities in a school or clinical setting is preferred.
4. Strong knowledge of developmental milestones and therapeutic interventions for children with special needs.
5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration with team members and families.
6. A commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that supports diverse learning needs.
