We're seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior) to join our team in Seattle, WA.

This team is responsible for providing Materials and Processes (M&P) support to the different Boeing Business Units and programs in current and future finishes solutions. We are focused on discovering, developing, and transitioning innovative materials and manufacturing technology into Boeing products. Our highly capable workforce excels in a team environment of challenge and opportunity on multiple projects, and partners with Boeing business units, government customers, global suppliers, and universities to rapidly mature key technologies to production readiness.

This candidate will be recognized as a focal point within BTI for several plating processes and provide technical solutions to complex hard metal finishes problems that require creativity and collaboration with other business units and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, energetic, driven, handy in the lab, able to work with no instructions for routine work and able to work special projects with minimal instruction.

Our team is currently hiring for a broad level of experience levels including mid-level and senior level engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products

  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes

  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations

  • Promotes standardization across business activities

  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs

  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements

  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate

  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements

  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes

  • Implements corrective and preventive actions

  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.

  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements

  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 3+ years of engineering experience

  • 3+ years of experience with inorganic finishes, plating or corrosion

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with one or more of the following specialties: Aerospace or Automotive finishing, Inorganic finishing, Inorganic Chemical Processes, Environmental Health and Safety, Paints, Coatings, Sealants, and/or Analytics

  • Experience performing applications of inorganic finishes (e.g. plating), decorative finishes/paints, particularly for commercial or military aircraft

  • Experience with hands-on chemical or materials processing

  • Experience with the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes

  • Experience with implementing new technology into production systems or onto product

  • Experience working independently with some guidance from more experienced engineers

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Excellent at handling multiple projects and understanding priorities and business needs

  • Excellent in interpersonal skills and ability to perform effectively in a cross functional team environment
