Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Transportation Data Science Intern to be based in Sanford, FL.

This position is expected to begin in August 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Contributes within Traffic Safety, ITS and Traffic and/or TMC Operations, as needed.
• Pulls and analyzes traffic data including vehicle and pedestrian crashes, travel times, traffic counts, etc.
• Supports and assists with the development of work products such as reports, dashboards, applications, graphics, etc.
• Works with existing data sets (SQL databases) and/or identifies new data sets relevant to the ICM program and its goals.
• Performs modeling and simulation.
• Develops an awareness of standard practices, techniques, and procedures under supervision.
• Research alternate solutions and design options in support of the project team, e.g., white paper research.
• Provides analysis to support development of traffic operations/ITS and TIM ideas and solutions.
• Communicates and collaborates with ICM team, client, project stakeholders, and others.
• Provides support for real-time traffic incident management (TIM) and/or for meetings with TIM stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Must have completed 3 years of study.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pursuing a Masters degree in Civil Engineering or Computer Science preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with data analytics and/or visualization
• Experience with JavaScript and SQL
• Knowledge/experience with advanced technologies such as AI, machine learning, etc.
• Knowledge/experience with traffic-related data such as speed/volume, travel time index and/or reliability, connected vehicle, SPAT, connected vehicle, etc.
• Knowledge/experience with ITS devices and relevant data
• Experience with modeling/simulation
• Programming experience (Python, Java, JavaScript, PHP, C++, C#)
• Database management (SQL)
