Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer Mechanical Design Intern to join the Building Control Systems Wattstopper Team in Carlsbad, CA. The Engineer Mechanical Design Intern will work closely with electrical and mechanical development teams and assist in various design activities for both new product design and sustaining engineering. Design and maintain mechanical sheet metal, plastic, die cast, and extruded components and assemblies. 

 

What Will You Do?

  • Assist in design and documentation of new mechanical products, sub-assemblies and/or components needed in the design of lighting control and shading products. Create models and prototypes to prove validity of designs.
  • Maintenance of existing mechanical products and documentation (design improvements, cost savings etc.) and product databases through engineering change process.
  • Assist in transitioning new products, and improved products to production.
  • Work with manufacturers to coordinate OEM designs and schedules as they relate to mechanical design.
  • Review manufacturers’ documentation for completeness and consistency with company guidelines.
  • Create 2-D drawings to support design teams during development.
  • Work closely with design engineers in the review and approval of tooling plans, mold drawings and overall tooling schedules.
  • Participate in industrial designs, feasibility studies and concept designs to assist marketing and design engineers during the early phases of development.
  • Create labels and artwork using tools used by ME Team.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Skills

 

Education:

  • Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of materials manufacturing processes including molding of plastic parts and sheet metal forming and stamping. Basic knowledge of drafting, tolerances and documentation practices. Experience with SolidWorks 2019 or newer.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team based environment. Fosters open communication and support an environment of innovation and creative change.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities. Must possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a number of tasks at various stages of work.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.
  • Experience in using Arena PLM Preferred.
  • Experience in using Adobe Illustrator and Loftware preferred.

 Salary Range: $22.00-$25.00/hourly
