Job Description:

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Environmental Public Health program in Portland, Oregon has a fantastic career opportunity for an Environmental Health Education and Equity Specialist (Public Health Educator 2) to support environmental health education and community outreach and engagement activities across all Environmental Public Health section (EPH) programs. The purpose of this position is to assess, develop, plan, organize and evaluate environmental health education and community outreach services.

This is a full-time, permanent, classified position which is represented by a union. Limited duration positions are benefit eligible. This recruitment may be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill current or future vacancies.

What will you do?
As the Public Health Educator 2, you will use data collection methods and analysis to determine the effectiveness of EPH’s health education and equity efforts, to report on those findings to EPH leadership, to make recommendations, and to implement improvements toward cultural responsiveness and inclusivity.

This position develops relationships with community partners, as well as other state and local agencies, and engages them to assess community strengths, needs and priorities in formulating appropriate health education communications and outreach plans and materials. It creates and disseminates new educational materials or revises existing materials to meet specific program needs and provides technical assistance to local health departments, Tribes and community-based organizations seeking to communicate about priority environmental public health matters.

This position works with EPH subject matter experts to translate technical environmental health information into language and formats that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and readily understandable to the public, the media, healthcare providers and other audiences.
