A Brief Overview
The Vice President of Human Resources (VP, HR) serves as the chief people officer for Stanford Health Care – Tri Valley (SHC TV). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role provides enterprise wide leadership for human resources strategy, operations, and transformation in support of SHC TV's mission, vision, and C I CARE values. The VP, HR is accountable for advancing a high performing, inclusive, and future ready workforce that enables exceptional patient, family, and employee experiences.
The role leads the development and execution of an integrated Talent and Workforce Strategy for a workforce of approximately 1,300 employees, aligned with both SHC TV priorities and the broader Stanford Health Care ecosystem.

What you will do
Key Relationships
Chief Executive Officer – Primary reporting relationship; strategic partner on enterprise strategy, culture, executive talent, and workforce risk.
Executive Leadership Team – Trusted advisor and collaborator on organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, and people implications of clinical and operational decisions.
Board of Directors & Compensation Committee – Partner on executive compensation, benefits, succession planning, and governance matters.
Stanford Health Care Enterprise HR & System Leaders – Align local workforce strategy with system priorities, standards, and shared services.
Labor Partners & Regulatory Bodies – Executive level engagement to ensure constructive labor relations, compliance, and organizational stability.
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Serve as the enterprise people strategist, embedding workforce and culture considerations into organizational strategy and executive decision making.
Shape and evolve the Employer Value Proposition to attract, engage, and retain top healthcare talent in a competitive labor market.
Act as a trusted advisor to the President and Executive Leadership Team on workforce risk, opportunity, and long term capability needs.
Partner with the President and Compensation Committee on executive compensation, benefits, and governance matters.
People & Culture Transformation
Lead enterprise wide transformation of the People Experience, ensuring alignment with C I CARE principles and patient centered care delivery.
Champion a culture of accountability, engagement, psychological safety, and continuous improvement across all levels of the organization.
Advance modern talent practices across the full lifecycle, including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, development, succession planning, and retention.
Drive leadership and organizational development strategies that build bench strength and readiness for future clinical and operational needs.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
Provide executive oversight of all HR operations, ensuring consistent, high quality service delivery to leaders, employees, and patients.
Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, labor relations requirements, accreditation standards, and union agreements.
Lead labor and employee relations strategy in a unionized healthcare environment, including issue resolution, negotiations, and risk mitigation.
Oversee HR technology, analytics, and digital tools to enable data driven decision making and operational efficiency.
Financial & Workforce Stewardship
Manage enterprise workforce costs, including headcount, compensation, and benefits, in alignment with strategic and financial priorities.
Establish workforce analytics and metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and to inform long term planning.
Ensure HR programs and investments deliver measurable value to the organization, employees, and patients.
Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, coach, and develop a high performing HR leadership team with strong business partnership capability.
Build organizational capability in change leadership, performance management, and people leadership across the enterprise.
