100% Onsite at the National Indian Gaming Commission located at: 550 12th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding Federal Government holidays

Pay Rate: $85-$90/hr

IT SYSTEMS ENGINEER 3

The Senior IT Systems Engineer will perform activities as follows with minimal supervision:

a. Perform systems engineering and maintenance activities according to established standards.

b. Apply knowledge and skills of information systems management principles including NIST guidelines and FISMA directives.

c. Apply knowledge of networking technologies including LAN, Cloud Environment, MS Azure, and Wireless management in solutions implementation and troubleshooting.

d. Evaluate current NIGC IT systems architecture and configuration with a view to recommend well researched and documented corrective actions.

e. Identify gaps in the implementation of Federal Information Systems Management Act (FISMA) requirements and propose remediation plans.

f. Manage the M365 Entra ID environment with a focus on conditional access, MFA integration, and auditing.

g. Provide written recommendations to System Owner on systems operations priorities to help drive operations improvements and identify dependencies.

h. Develop and implement STIGS configuration baselines for servers and configure proactive monitoring and alerting for all critical IT resources.

i. Perform day-to-day IT systems administration activities according to best practices in both on-premises and M365 environments.

j. Evaluate and execute security compliance activities such as Endpoint Detection and Response policies and SCUBA compliance baselines to align the environment with cybersecurity directives and internal security requirements as requested by the CISO.

k. Install, configure, test, and maintain servers, storage, and related networking equipment.

l. Develop disaster recovery strategies for critical systems and data as directed by System Owner,

m. Implement patch management strategies, and secure data according to established procedures.

n. Install firmware and security updates on servers, printers, and related networking equipment.

o. Maintain configuration hygiene, mitigate vulnerabilities, document systems administration processes, and support the implementation of controls to meet FISMA requirements.

p. Participate in special project team meetings to gather relevant systems requirements and support the integration of projects with IT operations.

q. Develop and maintain accurate systems operations documentation including the preparation of standard operating procedures for recurring tasks.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in InfoSec/Cyber/Technical discipline - Relevant IT certifications may be substituted for a formal college degree; however, demonstrated hands-on experience in performing the required tasks is mandatory and may not be substituted.

Senior-level systems engineering experience: Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience in IT systems engineering and administration, with the ability to work independently and perform maintenance according to established standards.

Federal compliance & security frameworks: Strong knowledge of NIST guidelines and FISMA requirements, with the ability to assess compliance gaps and implement remediation strategies.

Infrastructure & cloud expertise: Proven experience managing and troubleshooting enterprise environments including on-premises systems, LAN, wireless networks, cloud platforms (especially Microsoft Azure), and hybrid infrastructures.
Identity & access management (M365/Entra ID): Hands-on experience managing Microsoft 365 Entra ID, including conditional access policies, MFA implementation, and auditing.
System hardening & security operations: Ability to develop and implement STIG baselines, EDR policies, patch management, vulnerability mitigation, and proactive monitoring/alerting for critical systems.
