Scientific Lab Manager
Job Description:The Department of Neuroscience is looking for candidates who would like to join Dr. Maurer's lab as a Scientific Lab Manager is responsible for all matters relating to regulatory and laboratory safety requirements/compliance. The SRM manages all IACUC protocols and is responsible for ensuring compliance with IACUC policies. Acts as lab representative in IACUC meetings and resolves any issues related to IACUC approvals; also oversees animal care activities. Other responsibilities include supervision and/or training of laboratory staff and onboarding new personnel. SRM handles all laboratory purchasing, maintains necessary fiscal records, and monitors/manages activity/spending.
Job details include:
IACUC protocols: responsible for writing new IACUC protocols, as well as renewing/amending current protocols to reflect evolving research needs and policy/regulatory changes Attends IACUC meetings to address any concerns. Monitors IACUC and ACS policy updates/changes and ensures lab personnel are appropriately trained and follow protocol-specific (approved) procedures.
Regulatory compliance: responsible for overseeing all IACUC-related inspections/ laboratory visits
(Including pre-inspection preparations, communicating/meeting with inspection teams, addressing/
resolving any post-inspection deficiencies) and ensures lab staff IACUC training requirements are up to
date. Also tracks/handles PI/laboratory regulatory compliance with DEA and State of FL DBPR
requirements/policies (including license renewals/changes and record keeping).
Laboratory safety: conducts annual laboratory hazard assessment/review, writes/updates chemical
SOPs, maintains chemical inventory, manages hazardous waste disposal, monitors lab personnel safety
training compliance, and handles annual EHS laboratory safety inspections (including prep, scheduling,
and resolution of any post-inspection issues).
Fiscal: responsible for all laboratory purchases (materials/supplies, equipment, repairs) and
maintains related records and vendor accounts. Monitors and manages expenditures associated with
specific projects (grant and internal funds). Also prepares PI expense reports and acts as PI liaison
to/attends meetings with dept. fiscal/grants staff.
$79,000-$81,500
Minimum Requirements:Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience
