Apheresis Cellular Therapy Collection Registered Nurse 

Perform apheresis procedures and participates in quality assurance activities to ensure the highest quality of service and care.
 
Procedures performed:
o   Apheresis is the process of separating whole blood into its main parts, taking out one of those parts and giving the rest back to the patient. Apheresis procedures using the Spectra Optia device, including but not limited to: 
§  Peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) 
·         Autologous (self) and Allogeneic (donor)
o   Related and unrelated for the National  Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)
§  Mononuclear Cells (MNC)
·         For Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) manufacture
·         Allogeneic peripheral blood lymphocytes
§  Allogeneic Granulocytes
o   Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP) is a type of apheresis. During ECP, whole blood is separated into its main parts, the white cells are removed, combined with a medication, exposed to ultraviolet light, and these treated white cells are then returned to the patient.  ECP procedures using the Therakos Cellex device. ECP procedures are used to treat:
§  Graft vs. host disease (GVHD)
§  Solid organ transplant rejection
§  Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma/mycosis fungoides/sezary syndrome

Essential Functions:
-    Maintains knowledge of rationale and techniques relating to apheresis
-    Performs procedures according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs)
-    Participates in quality assurance activities, which include good documentation practices (GDP), quality control of equipment, and preventive maintenance
 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

-    Applicants familiar with either or both the Spectra Optia and Therakos Cellex devices and associated procedures. 
-    A working knowledge of FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) requirements/regulations is highly desirable.  

Procedural area hours of operation:
Monday-Friday 0800-1800 
 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

 

Experience

 

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level. CN Is are eligible for promotion to CN II by meeting criteria set forth by the DUHS Vizient Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire. Promotions can occur at 12 months of hire, but no later than 18 months of hire.

 

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

 

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
