THE DIVISION
The Division of Virginia State Parks fulfills its mission “to conserve the natural, scenic, historic and cultural resources of the Commonwealth and provide recreational and educational opportunities consistent with the good stewardship of these lands, waters and facilities that leaves them unimpaired for future generations” by operating a system of 43 state parks that encompass over 75,000 acres; over 1200 buildings, almost 1700 campsites; over 300 cabins; over 700 miles of trails; nearly 500 miles of shoreline; 36 lakes and ponds; 11 swimming beaches; 4 international dark sky sites, and offers over 20,000 educational programs and workshops each year.

THE PARK

More than 850 feet long and 10 stories high, Natural Tunnel was naturally carved through a limestone ridge over thousands of years. William Jennings Bryan called it the "Eighth Wonder of the World." Other scenic features include a wide chasm between steep stone walls surrounded by several pinnacles, or "chimneys."

Facilities include two campgrounds, cabins, picnic areas, an amphitheater, a visitor center, a camp store and a gift shop. You'll also find the Wilderness Road historic area and a chairlift to the tunnel floor.

Guests enjoy cave tours and canoe trips on the Clinch River, as well as the Cove Ridge Center, which offers environmental education, conference facilities and overnight dorm accommodations. 

The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center at 371 Technology Trail Lane in Duffield is a satellite facility of this park. The center has a museum, library, conference room, gift shop and outdoor classroom. Various events, workshops and programs, which are listed under Natural Tunnel's events, are held here.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Park Ranger-Maintenance, you will join an exceptional team and be responsible for supervising maintenance operations to ensure facilities and grounds are safe and meet current standards. The incumbent will:

• Perform on-going routine maintenance and repairs to facilities, grounds, and equipment.
• Provide daily supervision and assign work tasks to hourly employees, volunteers, and alternate work force.
• Perform duties related to fee collection, public relations, and visitor assistance.
• This position will also educate visitors on park rules and regulations.

Position will require occasional overnight travel for training and meetings. Shifts will vary and include holidays
