SUMMARY OF THE JOB
The shipping activity is divided into 2 sectors:
- Chartering: supporting Trading by chartering vessels on voyage and time-charter and managing the respective charter parties governing contracts of affreightment
- Day to day operating of the fleet of vessels, time chartered and on spot voyage charters.
A key activity of the job is the chartering of ocean going vessels for the transportation of cement and cementitious products including other raw materials associated with the cement industry such as gypsum, coal and alternative fuels such as petcoke. The chartering activity incorporates the negotiation and fixtures on long term contract of affreightment on a worldwide basis. In addition to voyage and spot charters, time chartering is also an important activity to cover the long terms needs of the trading activity.
MAIN ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish a good network of brokers and ship owners. Formalize requests from the traders for all shipments as and when required.
- For spot shipments, negotiate and make recommendations to the Senior Chartering manager or Chartering managers
- Assist the SCM or CM in their daily job applications.
- Charter in/out vessels (cement, clinker, gypsum, slag, fly ash + solid fuels i.e. petcoke & coal)
- Checking and writing of Charter parties.
- Strictly enforce Group Shipping Directive / Insurance Policies and provide support to internal customers in Holcim Trading & Shipping and Holcim Business Units
- Manage all claims and insurance matters including Charter Party disputes for the trades under their responsibility
- Report periodically as specified, on market developments and market intelligence on the bulk market (Supra/ Handy/Panamax)
Operations:
- Support operations team in all claims matters / disputes / CP terms and conditions)
- Advise / guide/ instruct operation team when needed (contract terms, laytime, operations)
- Deal with shipping/chartering issues (ex. claims from owners, stevedore damage, and cancellation of contract / Charter Party) in close cooperation with lawyers / Protection & Indemnity Club
Check and control Contracts and Charter Parties
- Work closely with the Senior Chartering manager to negotiate, collect any outstanding due, check and control Charter Parties
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensures alignment of H&S activities arising from country/business unit H&S mission
- Ensures relevant actions are taken so that HS&E requirements are met
- Actively manages risks by ensuring that all related control activities are implemented
- Drives committed and effective incident management
Digitalization and Decarbonization
- Involved in developing new tools internally for Shipping
- Liaising with Ship Owners/Brokers in collecting Co2 emissions data and providing feedback
PROFILE REQUIRED
Education/ Qualification:

Higher education degree in Maritime / Logistics is a must
Experience:
-
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in dry bulk chartering industry
Knowledge and skills:
- Team-oriented
- Good knowledge of commercial shipping & Chartering.
- Strong technical know-how and orientation in vessel operations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to effectively engage in multicultural environments
- Analytical, result oriented and strategic thinking
