About the Role

Wirecutter is a product recommendation company owned by The New York Times Company. We provide evidence-based advice on the best things to buy across a wide range of categories.

In collaboration with The New York Times, Wirecutter is in the process of developing a new CMS for not just Wirecutter but for all of The New York Times. As the Senior Product Manager, CMS, you will be the driving force behind the successful planning, execution, and delivery of this complex initiative and the ongoing evolution of our editorial platform and tooling henceforth. You will be the primary liaison between the product team and various stakeholders (editorial, multimedia, commerce, creative, etc.), ensuring alignment, clear communication, and efficient collaboration throughout the migration process. This role reports to our VP of Product, Wirecutter. This is a hybrid role based in New York City at the NYT HQ.

 

Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Assess the current state of our progress building our new CMS, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

  • Create a prioritized product roadmap that outlines enhancements, new features, and timelines.

Product Discovery, Delivery & Iteration

  • Conduct user research to understand content creator and editor needs and pain points within the current system.

  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure efficient development of new features and enhancements.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Communicate product strategy, roadmap, and progress to partners across the organization both within Wirecutter and with our Times teams’ counterparts.

  • Advocate for the CMS and its users, ensuring their needs are prioritized and addressed throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, with a track record of managing complex projects.

  • 2+ years of experience with content management systems (CMS) and migration projects.

  • 2+ years of experience in a cross-functional team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience of digital publishing workflows and technologies.

  • Experience working with AI tooling to automate rote processes.

  • 2+ years of experience with multimedia management tools.

  • 2+ years of experience working with remote and/or hybrid teams. 

  • 2+ years of experience with SEO best practices.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:$140,000$160,000 USD
