The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks.
Responsibilities:
Field work:
-Mark and establish demonstration/experimental plots .
-Collect pre- and post-plant soil samples .
-Collect and process crop samples (biomass and yield).
-Apply chemicals including fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc.
-Collect crop canopy data using crop sensors .
Data entry and data management:
-Perform basic statistical analysis using any software.
-Maintain database of weather, soil, and crop data.
-Shipping and handling of samples .
-Maintain inventory of research equipment and supplies.
Lab Work:
-Process soil samples; sort, dry, grind, etc .
-Process crop samples; dry grain or biomass samples, grind samples for lab analysis
-Perform simple lab tests on soil samples including pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density, water content, etc .
-Collect samples and measurement data from experiments.
- Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
-Collect and compiles data. Computes quantitates and extends projections.
-Assembles and operates technical equipment.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.
-Other duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
-Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
-Good communication skills.
-Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
-Ability to exert heavy force.
-Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
- Ability and permitted to drive medium size truck.
-Ability to work in the field in moderate to extreme conditions.
