We are currently seeking the following position:



Museum receptionist/Tour Guide


This position requires flexible availability and MUST be able to work during the week, weekends, and holidays during the Summer/tourist season. The Museum is open year-round and only closes on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

This person will be scheduled as needed.

There will be a Shift lead and regular employee for this contract.


This position would work the following schedule as needed:

Workday is from 0900 to 1630 hours on Saturday and from Noon to 1630 on Sundays.

1st Infantry Division Museum

Custer House



Hours of Operations:

(U. S. Cavalry Museum)

Saturday and Holiday: 09:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Sunday: 12:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.


(1 st Infantry Division Museum)

Saturday and Holidays: 09:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Sunday: 12:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.


(Custer House)

Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day

Monday - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Labor Day through the end of September

Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

will close 1 October through Memorial Day. No support will be

required during this period.


Scope of Work:


  • Museum Staffing support is included but is not limited to, the operation of the U. S. Cavalry Museum, Fort Riley Regimental Museums, and Custer House by providing general information to visitors and maintaining oversight of exhibit galleries during operation
  • Answer and respond courteously to telephonic inquiries and refer calls to the appropriate person. Be familiar with Government phones, utilizing flash, hold and redial. Respond to personal and telephonic inquiries pertaining to basic information on the Museum's operations.
  • Assist museum patrons with basic questions about museum exhibits, location of basic services
  • involving dining locations and other support.
  • Provide security services, as required, including locking and unlocking rooms and ensuring
  • utilities (lights, air conditioning, and heat) and equipment are turned off when not in use.
  • Conduct a walkthrough of exhibit galleries every thirty minutes to ensure the physical security
  • Custer House guide will continuously monitor visitors to ensure the security of the building.
  • Monitor museum galleries at other times through museum security equipment located in the museum administrative offices.
  • Maintain museum ICE (Interactive Customer Evaluation) comment machine in the U. S. Cavalry
  • Museum and 1st Infantry Division Museum. Encourage patrons to complete ICE
  • comments and ensure the ICE machine is reset for the next patron.
  • Ensure knowledge of emergency procedures in case of medical, fire, and/or weather emergency.
  • Ensure museum brochure racks are filled with appropriate brochures
