Job Summary:

The Sapphire Anywhere Database Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day support and maintenance of the Microsoft SQL and SAP HANA estate on our enterprise hosting platform delivered via a Private Cloud in the UK and via AWS (or other Public Cloud Services) in the US and other regions. The Sapphire Anywhere platform currently hosts services to around 150+ Customers, primarily SAP Business One, SAP HANA, Info Sun Systems, Infor EAM, and a range of ancillary services that deliver a portfolio of Customer outcomes.


The individual will be an IT professional with a diversified technical database management background in a variety of industries. The role will ensure our Customer facing databases are operating in accordance with industry best practices. Working in conjunction with the other departments within the global Sapphire organisation, strong technical abilities will be critical in identifying solutions, directing the appropriate teams, and assisting with any issues as they arise.


The role is India based, and is predominantly shifted within UK working hours (08:00 to 18:00). However, due to the nature of the services provided, some flexibility around shifted hours will be required based on global delivery needs and requirements.

Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Manage production and non-production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, security, and performance are achieved
  • Perform administration, on-going management, monitoring of all database systems and other indicators of potential issues and attempt to address them preemptively; while always looking to streamline and improve processes
  • Identify and troubleshoot performance or reliability issues, recommending and implementing solutions to overcome them to optimize Sapphires Customer facing databases
  • Collaborate with Sapphire technology and support consultants on database related efforts including the advanced support of application databases on SQL Sever and/or SAP HANA
  • Provide answers to database questions and direct project teams and consultants as required to affect changes to database systems
  • Protect the safety and integrity of the database platform(s) through database design changes, backups and securing of database instances
  • Participate in design and code reviews, develop standard operating procedures, and contribute to company-wide standards for our database estates
  • Analyze and determine information needs and elements, database relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Minimum of 10 years of DBA experience with 5+ HANA DBA experience preferably in a cloud environment (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Database troubleshooting experience dealing with performance tuning, patching, and high availability of a blended database landscape (SQL/SAP HANA)
  • Significant experience in database administration, information technology, database architecture and the implementation of backups
  • Experience of using database trace utilities and trace log-file analysis, HANA studio, DBA cockpit in SAP HANA system
  • A background of managing high availability services in cloud-based technologies in both Private and Public cloud technical environments
  • Outstanding customer relationship building skills with the ability to grasp customers’ needs and suggest timely solutions
  • Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, related technical discipline, or equivalent experience

Must have:

  • Thorough technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server technologies and SAP HANA databases in both the Private and Public Cloud
  • Strong communications and teamworking skills to implement database best-practices and ensure knowledge-sharing as part of a shared database and ERP system landscapes
