BlackSky is looking for an experienced technical writer to produce high-quality technical documentation for implementation of our product and platform for our customers. As an ideal candidate, you have proven experience in a highly technical field, such as software development, computer science, or engineering. This position will have a large system integration focus. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in an autonomous position.  We would love candidates near our Herndon, VA office but will also consider remote candidates in certain states.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement customized technical documents.
• Perform writing tasks for technical documents, such as user manuals, installation manuals, help documents, and tutorials.
• Gather information about needs, objectives, functions, features, and requirements.
• Disseminate technical information in easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience.
• Create software documentation after a thorough collaboration with subject matter experts and technical staff.
• Partner with and write documentation for internal teams such as developers and programmers.
• Work with development and support leads to identify all documentation repositories, revise and edit, and determine the best solution for data compilation and centralized storage.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, information systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related disciplines.
• Minimum of five years writing technical documentation.
• Understand and explain complex technical concepts, prior work in highly technical environments.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Ability to discern priorities and deliver on deadlines.
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail.
• Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office.
• Must be a US-born citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with colleagues in multiple time zones.
• Prior experience working with systems integration projects.
• Previous software development experience.
• Prior experience supporting government contracts.
• Hold an active secret clearance or higher.

The anticipated salary range for candidates in Seattle, WA is $110,000-130,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on specific background and education. BlackSky is a multi-state employer and this pay scale may not reflect salary ranges in other states or locations outside of Seattle, WA.
