This role can be based in one of the following offices:

  • Westbook, ME

We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

As a Commercial Processing Supervisor (or Rating Supervisor), you will be responsible for the management of rating staff, training, quality reviews and will contribute to the monthly production of the team.  The team management responsibilities include training, mentoring, coaching, performance appraisals and quality reviews and ensure that the team meets or exceeds departmental and corporate goals.

We'll count on you to:

 

Coach and Motivate People

  • Directly supervise the daily activities of the Rating Operations team, providing consistent coaching and development opportunities to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and annual performance reviews, delivering constructive feedback and recognizing achievements to foster growth and motivation.
  • Support a positive work environment by modeling behavior that encourages collaboration, open communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Address performance issues promptly and constructively, ensuring alignment with company values and expectations.

Build Effective Teams

  • Participate in the hiring process in collaboration with the Regional Rating Manager to ensure the selection of high-performing team members.
  • Train new and existing staff in coordination with the Training Coordinator, ensuring consistent onboarding and skill development.
  • Promote teamwork through regular team meetings, open communication channels, and shared goals.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal business partners to support cross-functional collaboration and team success.

Manage Change

  • Support a culture of innovation by encouraging the team to challenge existing processes and explore more effective ways of working.
  • Monitor work volume and performance metrics, taking corrective action when necessary in alignment with the Rating Manager’s direction.
  • Stay informed of industry developments and internal changes, adapting team strategies and workflows accordingly.
  • Facilitate change management by clearly communicating updates, expectations, and the rationale behind new initiatives.

Drive Productivity

  • Develop and utilize work management tools to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Process various types of work monthly to support production goals and maintain hands-on knowledge of rating functions.
  • Monitor inventory and workflow reports to ensure adherence to productivity targets and service level agreements.
  • Use data and reporting tools to identify trends, remove bottlenecks, and optimize team output.

Business Acumen

  • Maintain a strong understanding of commercial lines rating, coverages, products, and related processes to guide team performance and decision-making.
