Position Summary: This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing HMI/SCADA systems that set the standard for automation projects. As a key member of the development team, the focus will be on establishing reusable and scalable standards to support future projects, with an emphasis on graphic design and user experience.  Will also ensure that products present critical information in a clear, actionable, and effective way for operators while collaborating closely with Development Lead Engineer, PLC programmers, software engineers, and product managers to create user-friendly solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Design and develop visually appealing HMI/SCADA systems with an emphasis on usability and user experience.
  • Establish and maintain standards for HMI/SCADA architecture to ensure scalability and reusability.
  • Optimize graphical interfaces and create graphics/layouts that clearly present key information, highlight critical issues, and enhance the usability and effectiveness of HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Ensure interfaces are intuitive, consistent, and aligned with user needs and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with operators, product managers, and software engineers to gather feedback and refine designs.
  • Work closely with the Development Lead Engineer to ensure alignment between HMI/SCADA systems, PLC programming, and other automation systems.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and product managers to align system designs with company objectives and customer requirements.
  • Incorporate feedback to refine standards and ensure systems are prepared for seamless project assembly.
  • Integrate HMI/SCADA systems with PLCs, databases, and other automation components.
  • Conduct rigorous testing to verify system functionality, performance, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during development.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system designs, standards, and user guides.
  • Provide training and technical support to team members and clients as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of internal knowledge bases for HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Continuously research and evaluate new technologies, tools, and techniques to enhance system efficiency and capabilities while staying updated on industry trends and best practices to maintain team competitiveness and innovation.

Requirements

Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in Controls System Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Electro-Mechanical, Instrumentation, or related field, OR, 3+ years of experience in HMI/SCADA system design and implementation, demonstrated expertise in developing HMI systems for industrial automation, familiarity with PLC programming and integration.


Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in designing user interfaces that prioritize operator effectiveness, along with advanced scripting and graphic design in SCADA systems, knowledge of IIoT technologies and
