Sr. Mental Health Services Clinician

Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Sr, Mental Health Services (MHS) Clinician, Chat with a Counselor Program Coordinator to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners.

The Senior Mental Health Services Clinician, Chat with a Counselor Program Coordinator, is part of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians providing clinical and outreach services to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and learners across Johns Hopkins University.

Senior Clinicians within Mental Health Services participate in the full range of clinical service delivery and hold other responsibilities, including program coordination, supervision of 1-2 staff and/or interns, and professional development activities commensurate with their levels of experience. As a Chat with a Counselor Program Coordinator, this clinician will lead the coordination of liaisons who provide outreach to populations that are historically underrepresented in the utilization of traditional mental healthcare.

All MHS clinicians work collaboratively with psychiatry, primary care, and health promotion staff to provide care that emphasizes holistic wellness and mental well-being and that leverages students’ resilience and other key skills. Clinicians work collaboratively with campus partners across the University through outreach and liaison activities.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• This position’s direct clinical service and supervisory responsibilities will be primarily based at the Homewood and East Baltimore clinics but may provide virtual or in-person services, supervision, or have occasional reporting requirements at other locations in Maryland or Washington, D.C. See minimum qualifications for required timeframes for licensure. Jurisdictions required, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
• Percentages of duties and responsibilities are given as a general guideline and will vary depending on the time of year, needs of the clinical service, and program coordination responsibilities.

Chat with a Counselor Program Oversight (10-20%)

• Manages the Mental Health Services liaison program, including Chat with a Counselor schedule and marketing strategies; supports liaisons with connecting to student groups and serves as primary MHS liaison to the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
• Serves as primary liaison to the Vivien Thomas Scholars initiative; delivers programs and consultation to program leadership and scholar participants.
• Engages various campus stakeholders and student groups to determine needs for Chat with a Counselor initiative, and works with MHS staff to develop content to meet these needs.
• Coordinates quarterly professional development training seminar, with a particular focus on supporting populations that are historically underrepresented in traditional mental health services.
• Leads a monthly consultation group for clinicians providing Chat and liaison services.
• Develops, implements, and utilizes evaluation feedback for Chat with a Counselor and liaison services to inform future offerings.
• Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies, with a particular focus on health equity.
  

Supervision and Leadership Development (10-20%)

• Supervises 1-2 clinical staff and/or psychology doctoral interns through goal setting, performance evaluations and accountability management.
• Provides clinical supervision and ensures that supervisees are delivering high-quality mental health services and practicing within MHS guidelines; intern supervision includes review of tapes, leading didactic seminars, and participation in training program activities.
• Participates in recruitment, hiring, and training processes for clinical staff and interns.
• Contributes to staff development, engagement, and teambuilding activities and actively participates in MHS-wide events.

Direct Clinical Service (50-60%)

• Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
• Provides multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session consultation, goal-oriented individual and group therapy, and risk assessments.
