About the Role

We're seeking a design leader to drive the evolution of Ramp's core product suite, with a focus on Employee Experience and Travel. You’ll work with and guide the personal and professional growth of a small team of extraordinary product designers across multiple pods. You'll partner directly with the design leadership team to refine our global design process to achieve the highest level of craft and execution consistently.

This is a role for a player/coach who can leverage other designers to craft a compelling vision that reaches across different products and verticals, and dive into the details to make it happen. The ideal candidate loves mentorship, craft, and can roll up their sleeves to support their team and unblock decisions when needed. You'll think equally about how to grow the designers on your team, the strategic direction of our product, and the process we use to design outstanding software quickly. You should possess excellent people skills, a genuine desire to help your team grow, a good eye for design, and the ability to identify and nurture good designers.

Please note that this role will require you to be comfortable with working in-person at our NYC HQ (located near Madison Square Park) at least 3 days/week.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team of 2-4 Product Designers across multiple pods, ensuring their work creates a cohesive product experience within the broader Ramp platform

  • Partner with product and engineering leads to drive strategy and align team objectives, balancing design ambition with technical constraints and shipping velocity

  • Mentor and leverage your team to increase design output and quality, focusing on developing senior talent and fostering a culture of design excellence

  • Collaborate with the design leadership team to evolve Ramp's long-term product vision, design systems, and internal design processes

  • Apply and refine Ramp's design leveling framework, ensuring clear growth paths for your team members. Become a resource for other managers and ICs on the topic

  • Contribute to sourcing, interviewing, and hiring decisions, championing inclusive practices that seek excellence in craft

  • Collaborate with the design leadership team to enhance and support Ramp's design internship and apprenticeship programs, contributing to the development of emerging product design talent

What You Need

  • A minimum 8 years of design experience, building and shipping high quality products

  • A minimum  2 years of design leadership experience with direct reports at a tech company and/or start-tup

  • Proven track record of leading designers to deliver high-quality, cohesive products

    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

    • Proven record of mentoring up-and-coming designers

    • Demonstrated experience creating and growing design teams

  • Demonstrated experience as an IC in various forms

    • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end (hybrid UX and UI) product design

    • Experience in building and shipping applications or software

    • Experience owning products from start to finish, working with developers and PMs

    • Experience shipping both 0-to-1 and 1-to-n products

    • Experience working with and contributing to a world-class design
