In this role, you will be working in a commercial kitchen to make specialized meals for our residents. This can include working with dietary needs that require diabetic, low-sodium and pureed meals along with batch cooking. You will ensure that all food preparation and cooking activities comply with health, cleanliness, and safety regulations.

This is a Full-Time position working a varied rotating schedule which includes every other weekend and every other holiday.  

Day Cook Hours: 6:00am to 2:30pm
Evening Cook Hours: 11:30am to 8:00pm

Pay: $18.98 – $24.27 per hour depending on experience

What does a Cook do at Hastings Health & Living?

  • Deliver exceptional service to residents by providing fast, friendly and excellent customer service to all guests.
  • Monitor food temperatures during cooking and storage to prevent foodborne illnesses.
  • Prepare and cook all meals to ensure adherence to recipes and quality standards. This will also include feature/specials and grill service.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Review planned meals and take note of special diet requests.
  • Observe and report on low stock or high-demand choices.
  • Assist in orders and schedules delivery of food and supplies from local vendors.
  • Participate in meetings and required training to maintain regulatory standards of food service at the community.

What does a Cook require?

  • Strong communication skills to interact with residents and staff.
  • Proven experience as a Cook, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diets and the ability to adapt recipes accordingly.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to stand for length of shift.
  • Team player willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Selected candidate is required to pass a background check.

Bonus points for: 

  • Certification in food safety (ServSafe).
  • Culinary degree or relevant training.
  • Experience working with elderly populations and an understanding of their nutritional needs.
