Position Reports to: Optometry Clinic Manager
Positions Supervised: N/A
POSITION PURPOSE
This is a client-facing position where strong personal connections with new people are made daily. A successful candidate will optimize patient satisfaction by providing a warm and inviting experience. This role will play an important part in the success of the patient’s overall experience. Spanish speaking is highly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide a warm welcome to patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone.
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining the confidentiality of personal information.
- Exhibits a professional and positive demeanor and is flexible in accepting work assignments as assigned by their supervisor.
- Essential Functions (A successful candidate will fulfill any or all off the primary responsibilities listed below based on clinic needs and supervisor assignments)
- Dispensary
- Order, dispense, repair and adjust eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Assist and educate patients in the selection of frames, contact lenses and lens enhancements based on the patient's specific needs.
- Process eyeglasses and contact lens orders, which include pricing, measuring, collecting money, coding, and documenting patient charts.
- Dispensary
- Repairs and adjusts eyeglasses while ensuring patient satisfaction.
- Manages inventory of contact lenses, eyeglass frames, accessories, tools, and office supplies.
- Maintain clean, organized, and stocked eyeglass displays.
- Perform frame assembly and repair, frame adjustment and lensometry.
- Examination
- Obtain and record accurate patient history, including chief complaint, past ocular history, personal medical, family, and social history, systemic, medications, and allergies.
- Measure visual acuity at a distance and near, utilizing appropriate tests for age and education, and record accurately, including the use of pinhole testing when indicated.
- Perform entrance testing including lensometry, tonometry, autorefractor, confrontation visual field, pupil testing, and EOM testing.
- Perform basic slit lamp examination.
- Perform ancillary testing including corneal topography, visual field testing, OCT, fundus photography, and color vision testing.
- Scribe for doctors and student doctors.
- Provide language interpretation for patients
- Assist the doctors and student doctors with minor procedures, vision therapy, or any other tests or procedures assigned by the doctors, or supervisor(s)
- Stock examination rooms in assigned areas and ensure current medication expiration dates.
- Disinfect and maintain examination rooms.
- Teaches new contact lens wearers how to insert, remove, clean and care for lenses.
- Work with pharmacies to submit and verify prescriptions.
- Reception
- Provide office support by answering incoming calls, scheduling appointments and checking in patients for appointments.
- Contact insurance companies to verify benefits, obtain authorizations, submit claims, and ensure accurate processing of claims.
