Description
Job Summary/Objective
The OrthoHealth Medical Assistant position is a key member of the OrthoHealth patient care team performing clinical and clerical services to support physicians and other healthcare providers in the delivery of high quality care.
Operational Duties
- Greets and rooms patients
- Takes patient subjective, review medical history, medication list , etc
- Takes and records patient vitals and measurements imperative to OrthoHealth program
- Prepares rooms and ensure supplies are ready, ordering more when necessary
- Navigates EMR software platforms for appointment/document review/retrieval
- Answers phone calls, respond to patient questions, and take messages
- Assists with front desk duties as assigned
- Educates patients on health conditions, treatment, and medications
- Addresses patient questions regarding plan of care
- Manages pre-authorizations for prescribed medication as needed
- Transmits prescription refills as directed
- Starts new patient’s initial note from physician template from patient intake prior to patient appointment
- Performing administrative office procedures, including: coordinating appointments and procedures for patients, gathering and managing necessary documents (i.e. medical record, test results), triaging and responding to physician’s phone calls, as needed.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements

- Varied work hours
Required Education and Experience
- Medical Asst certification or college degree in healthcare field
- CPR certified
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Phlebotomy skills, collecting and preparing laboratory specimen
- Empathic and sensitive to patients struggling with obesity
- Willingness to learn about the disease of obesity and patient centered language
- Understanding of medications, obtaining prior authorizations
- Knowledge and familiarity with Epic EMR system is preferred but not required
- Team player with ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
- Detailed oriented and demonstrates effective time management
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift a maximum of 2t pounds to waist height
- Ability to be standing and sitting on a frequent basis during the day
- Ability to work on a computer on a frequent basis during the day
