Job Description

We are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join our Technology division within the Value Management organization. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of enterprise platforms, automation, and data. 

As part of our transition to a product operating model and SAFe, this engineer will help shape the way our teams work by building seamless integrations, automations, and workflows across the tools that power our enterprise portfolio: Azure DevOps, BMC Helix, Planview, and our OKR management solutions. 

The successful candidate will bring strong experience in: 

  • Integration engineering (APIs, webhooks, SaaS connectors, middleware) 
  • Automation & workflow design within and across platforms 
  • Data integration and modeling, with a mindset of treating data as a product 
  • Scripting/programming (Python, PowerShell, JavaScript) to enable automation 
  • Collaboration & leadership, partnering across technology and business teams to deliver scalable, value-driven solutions   

This role goes beyond supporting a single platform — in partnership with your Tech Lead you will help with cross-platform automation and data integration, ensuring that the tools our teams use are connected, efficient, and delivering high-quality data into our enterprise data mart.

You will assist in the development and design for highly complex solutions that are efficient and cost effective, which support Wellmark’s business and Technology initiatives. Additionally, you will ensure the product aligns with business expectations and development logic meets Wellmark standards and security requirements.  

While this role is approved for remote elligible, we will be focusing on talent local to Des Moines, IA first. 

Qualifications

Preferred: 

  • Hands-on experience automating workflows in ADO (rules, service hooks, Logic Apps/Power Automate).  
  • Strong experience integrating multiple SaaS/enterprise tools via REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, or middleware (MuleSoft, Boomi, Logic Apps, etc.). 
  • Development of end-to-end workflow automation across tools.  
  • Configured, automated, and integrated BMC Helix (or equivalent ITSM like ServiceNow).  
  • Hands-on integration/automation experience with Planview and/or OKR management systems. 
  • Proficient in Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript for automation and API calls. 
  • Familiar with dimensional models and experience aligning integration design toward data as a product initiatives.  
  • Experience working within an Agile team environment. 
  • Experience partnering with global staffing vendors to deliver projects. 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field of study, and at least 2 years of software development experience (ex. Angular, NodeJS, TypeScript, C++, .NET, Java, SQL) OR 6 years of related and applicable experience.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills. Accuracy and high attention to detail. Previous experience troubleshooting and developing creative technical solutions. Ability to provide innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development lifecycle methodologies.
  • Big picture thinker with the ability to translate the value of the WaaS strategy to company strategy when making design and development decisions.
  • Demonstrated, strong ability to gather information, perform necessary research needed for root cause analysis, problem definition and formulation, recommend solution implementation, verification, and ongoing optimization, using data to support recommendations and best practices.
