The Role
The Senior Software Engineer - Embedded Software will report to the Manager of Embedded Architecture, Integration and Tooling. You will be responsible for building and supporting autonomous vehicle systems that redefine large enterprise supply-chains and boast safe, error-free, and effective operational performance.
Given your background developing software for autonomous vehicles and/or mobile robotics applications, you'll have a major, positive impact on the performance, reliability, and safety of the Outrider System.
This position requires strong embedded software engineering skills as well as a passion for modern developer tooling and robust automated testing platforms. We're a team of builders that's passionate about start-to-finish, production-oriented development and rapidly introducing our software to the real world of logistics.

Duties and responsibilities

• Develop/document embedded software modules in C for the various control units on the Outrider vehicle through all phases of the development lifecycle: requirements, design, architecture, implementation, unit test, integration, and system test
• Architect and integrate new sensor interfaces and components with the existing embedded software stack
• Develop unit tests and automated tests based on requirements to prove functionality
• Bring up new hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) integration testing platforms and features for various embedded systems and components
• Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) integration testing on various embedded systems and components
• Triage and perform root cause failure analysis through understanding of system contextual usage, end user observation reporting, and system log file information
• Identify opportunities to improve deployed systems; work with software teams to understand data, performance, and potential improvements
• Support continuous integration/continuous development (CI/CD)
• Collaborate with embedded software engineers and test engineers on test tool requirements and design

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field
• Experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle - requirements development to unit testing
• Demonstrated C/C++ development experience with a focus on embedded applications
• High degree of comfort with Python
• Proficiency defining SW architecture
• Proficiency with ROS
• Exceptional debugging and analytical skills
• Experience with Git
• Experience with CAN and UDP
• Background developing software in a Linux environment

Ideal Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field
• Background in embedded software development for autonomous vehicle or mobile robotics applications
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) 
• Familiarity with functional safety specifications, including ISO 26262 and IEC 61508
