Responsibilities

Develops, organizes and supervises overall operations and distribution of resources (staffing, projects, outside vendor services) for the Clinical Engineering department. Reviews, audits and participates in decision support activities related to problem diagnosis, repair, preventative maintenance and quality assurance of patient care and other equipment. Ensures that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, implements quality control standards, assists with budget management and vendor relationships. The position requires that you must be familiar with a variety of Clinical Engineering concepts, practices and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Must be able to perform a variety of tasks under a fast paced environment. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

 

Accountabilities

1. Assists in the implementation of unit/department goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and standards of care which contribute to the achievement of department objectives.2. Escalates problems and concerns to the Manager to identify and resolve issues3. Supervises and monitors preventative maintenance program to ensure maximum effectiveness and appropriate documentation by maintaining accurate repair history and replacement records.4. Responsible for the scheduling and daily operations of the department. Monitors department On-Call schedule as needed. Distributes personnel based on preventive and corrective maintenance workloads.5. Ensures that work requests from equipment users are responded to within established guidelines.6. Works with department supervisors and outside vendors on projects related to new equipment installation, renovation, modifications or removal. May directly oversee the progress and status of such projects.7. Develops personnel collaboration skills and monitors staff technician customer service interactions, teamwork and both verbal and written communication skills.8. Determines training needs for staff technicians. Develops and participates in the continuing education of department employees in the repair and maintenance of equipment.9. Ensures that biomedical equipment is in compliance with the Joint Commission, Federal, State and local regulations and standards. Comprehends the importance of asset management by effectively directing others in the service and maintenance of equipment components.10. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the department's annual budget.11. Assists the department Manager (with support from Human Resources) with employee engagement and people management processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance approval, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development, employee retention, disciplinary actions and terminations.12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education• High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required• One of the following is requiredo Associate's Degree in Electronics, Engineering, Electrical Systems technology, Physics or directly related fieldo Completion of the US Military Biomedical Technician (BMET) programo Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Systems technology, Physics or directly related field

 

Experience• 3 years of experience in biomedical or related equipment required• 5 years of related experience in a healthcare setting preferred

 

Licenses and Certifications• CBET - Clinical Engineering and Biomed preferred• BMET - Biomedical Equipment Technician Certificate of Achievement preferred
