Adjunct Clinical Lecturer (NUR 781) Care of Persons Across the Life Span: Psychiatric Mental Health Concerns for Advanced Practice Professionals (Summer 2026) School of Nursing (Hybrid)

The UM-Flint School of Nursing is seeking to hire an adjunct clinical lecturer to teach NUR 781 (Care of Persons Across the Life Span: Psychiatric Mental Health Concerns for Advanced Practice Professionals) for the summer 2026 semester. This is a 3-credit face-to-face and online combination course. Adjunct lecturers will work in collaboration with lead faculty. The summer semester starts May 4, 2026.

Course Description: Guided and supervised by clinical and faculty preceptors, students apply diagnostic and critical-thinking skills while working with individuals across the lifespan experiencing mental health disease and disorders. Students demonstrate diagnostic skills, knowledge of pharmacologic agents based on individual characteristics, and conduct individual psycho-social therapy.

• Registered nurses are the single largest group of healthcare professionals in the United States. Yet, the vacancy rate for RNs continues to rise and currently stands at 9.4 percent, according to a report from NSI Nursing Solutions (2025).
• There is a growing demand for nurses both in hospitals and the community; the employment of RNs is projected to grow 5% from 2024 to 2034, which is faster than the average for all occupations. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
• However, faculty shortages at nursing schools across the country (currently at 8%), are limiting student capacity at a time when the need for professional registered nurses continues to grow.
• Budgetary constraints, an aging faculty population, and increasing job competition from clinical sites have contributed to this crisis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Doctorate (DNP, EdD, PhD)
Experience as an NP in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
Certification as a PMHNP or eligibility to sit for board certification with intention to do so within the next 60 days
Unencumbered RN License in the State of Michigan or eligibility for
