Overview:
The Business Services Directorate (BSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites applicants for a Financial Analyst position. Incumbent will support various functions within the Financial Planning Group in the Business Operations Division. These functions may include annual processes to develop lab-wide indirect budgets and associated rates, providing professional guidance to management regarding budgeting and accounting policies, methods, and techniques. Independently carries out assignments in data analysis, reporting, and other special assignments, requiring knowledge of systems and methods commonly used in the financial community.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports or leads preparation of recurring financial reports
- Identifies improved methods to streamline recurring financial reporting
- Supports development and analysis related to lab-wide indirect budgets and rates
- Provides professional guidance to lab leadership regarding budgeting and accounting policies, methods, and techniques.
- Prepares and ensures compliance with monthly and quarterly reporting requirements and year-end close-out requirements.
- Prepare and deliver financial presentations to directorate leadership and customers.
- Identify and remain compliant with financial laws and regulations.
- Respond to and follow up to ad hoc requests from lab leadership for financial information.
- Provides support in such functional areas as budget preparation and cost analysis as well as other areas of financial responsibility as required.
- Ability to become familiar with the ORNL Accounting system and external databases in order to proficiently perform responsible tasks.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
- five or more years of broad training and experience in a wide variety of finance or accounting assignments, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS degree in finance or accounting.
- Knowledge of UT-Battelle and DOE accounting systems desired.
- Demonstrated planning and organizing skills.
- Ability to coordinate many projects simultaneously with changing priorities.
- Excellent problem analysis and resolution skills are required.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as independently, as required.
- Excellent attention to detail and well-developed written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, allocate workloads and meet conflicting deadlines.
- Proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to interface with scientific and technical staff utilizing excellent human relations skills.
- Proficiency in PC Microsoft Office, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, such as Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat and Word.
