In this position, you will work as a leader in a patient focused, fast paced, and inspiring environment.
The Clinical Toxicology Supervisor will oversee the operational and technical activities for the day-to-day functioning of the Toxicology department. Qualified individual should be knowledgeable in all areas and functions of the Toxicology labs. The individual in this position will need strong leadership and communication skills and be able to motivate, encourage, and mentor other employees in the department.
Shift: 1st
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm (Some Overtime is required)
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise employees; maintain employee work/vacation schedules, provide flexibility when possible, facilitate resolution of conflicts, evaluate and manage employee performance for speed, accuracy, and quality, communicate expectations and goals, provide timely continued feedback and coaching throughout evaluation period, disciplinary actions and/or improvement plans, perform annual appraisals and reviews, submit separation memos and other staffing documentation as needed.
- Evaluate departmental staffing needs; interview, evaluate, select candidates, and fill out appropriate paperwork for job offers.
- Oversee employee on-boarding, training, and records; perform/delegate department competency assessments, continued development of materials to aide in training or continued education of staff.
- Administer policies consistently and fairly.
- Determine daily workflow and adjust as needed based on current pending and expectations of departmental/client TAT expectations.
- Monitor and develop lab efficiencies.
- Oversee implementation of new or updated assays and all active troubleshooting within laboratory.
- Promote a positive teamwork environment and builds strong interdepartmental relationships/partnerships.
- Promote the purpose/vision of the company/department and importance of timely/accurate patient results; incorporates Labcorp Leadership ID in daily functions to Inspire, to Innovate, to Develop, and to Deliver.
- Maintain up-to-date laboratory procedures (SOPs); assist with annual reviews of SOPs, forms, policies or other documents.
- Perform or delegate monthly review of Quality Control data, instrument maintenance logs, disinfection logs, etc.; ensure corrective actions are documented and appropriate.
- Assist with proficiency testing (internal and external) in review and implementation of any corrective actions.
- Participate in external/internal inspections as required by governing agencies, assist in review and implementation of any corrective actions needed
- Oversee inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies needed to perform testing.
- Assist with ETAs on status checks.
- Assist in production work as needed.
- Special projects as defined by Manager or Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university in chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant technical laboratory experience required.
- 2+ years of Toxicology experience, including extraction preparation work and data analysis for LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, HPLC and/or GC preferred.
- 2+ years of proven leadership experience, ability to lead and direct staff, and lead by example.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal, and listening skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Work effectively in a fast paced production environment to meet established turn-around-times.
