Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about protecting Alberta’s Provincial Parks and Recreation Areas while leading innovative wildfire mitigation strategies? Do you thrive in dynamic environments where your expertise directly impacts communities and ecosystems? If so, we want you on our team!

 

As the Parks Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator, you would be Alberta Parks’ provincial expert in wildfire mitigation. You would lead the development, coordination, and implementation of wildfire mitigation strategies across the province.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement wildfire mitigation frameworks, policies, and procedures for Alberta Parks.
  • Align Parks’ wildfire strategies with the Alberta Wildfire Mitigation Strategy and FireSmart principles.
  • Lead training programs, workshops, and working groups.
  • Coordinate wildfire mitigation planning across priority park sites.
  • Provide expert advice on vegetation management, capital projects, and emergency response.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and external agencies.
  • Support emergency response coordination and post-wildfire restoration planning.

Qualifications

University degree (4 years) in a related field such as Wildfire Management, Forestry or Emergency Response plus plus 6 years related experience in in wildfire management or mitigation.

 

Equivalency

 

A related two-year diploma plus 8 years related experience. Additional related education considered in lieu of experience on the basis of one year of education for one year of experience or vice versa. Preference will be given to candidates with Professional certification in Registered Professional Forester, Professional Biologist, or other suitable professional designation.
